Collaborative law is a unique alternative dispute resolution process. The emphasis is on reaching a full resolution by looking at the parties’ interests. We use an interdisciplinary team approach to support the parties during the process. Confidentiality is key and protected by statute. Everyone must agree to participate with this procedure and agree to behave like adults, be transparent and dignified. The focus is on the future, not the past, so both parties must try and leave all blame behind to move forward. Cooperative practices replace adversarial litigation. If children are involved, the team works to build co-parenting and communication skills. If litigation is filed already it can be abated to allow the participants to take part in the collaborative process.
